Trick question! There is no “right” length for your podcast; make your podcast as long as it needs to be.
I taught 7th-grade language arts (reading and writing) before starting my agency. The students constantly asked how long should their papers be but I wouldn’t give them an amount. Podcasting is no different.
Look, I know some people say that based on a completely fictional avatar, their podcast should be exactly 26 and ½ minutes or that the “sweet spot” is 30 to 45 minutes. These formulas don’t work for everyone. However, it completely depends on several variables:
- What is the goal of your podcast?
- Who is your target market?
- How much can you handle?
I’ve seen all kinds of lengths work; I’ve seen successful 2-minute, 45-minute shows, and several hours shows all work. Personally, my main podcast averages 45 to 60 minutes in length, this show averages 10 minutes or less, and I’m about to start a new podcast that will be no longer than 2 minutes per episode.
There is no perfect podcast length. Make it exactly as long as it needs to be.
