Are transcriptions important? Yes.
Notes vs Transcriptions
- Show notes summarize the episode and often include key takeaways, quotes, and links
- Show transcriptions are word for word copies of the episode or interview
Don’t use transcriptions for search engine optimization (SEO). Use transcriptions for accessibility.
I have two interviews I want you to listen to on this topic:
- The first is Belo Cipriani. Belo Cipriani had a successful career in Silicon Valley as a talent acquisition specialist for the likes of Google, Apple, and eBay, the night a high school acquaintance assaulted him and left him blind. Belo and I are producing a podcast on how companies are helping people who live with disability. It matters.
- Second, is Kait Paschall. Kait is a professional of user-experience and user interfaces at Enti / University of Barcelona. She teaches a lot about making video game and websites more accessible.
Another Opinion
Jamie Sutherland, CEO at Sonix had several good responses to this question as well. The two that stood out for me were create a better experience for your user and do more with your content.
Bonus
In this episode, Andy Baldacci and I talk about how he uses and repurposes the transcriptions of his podcast. Enjoy!
