Yes.
Your podcast needs somewhere to live.
It really needs two different homes:
- You have the actual MP3 on a media dedicated host like Libsyn, Blubrry, or Simplecast. This space is referenced by everything else.
- And then you have the front-facing website of your podcast. I’m biased towards WordPress. With WordPress, you have a lot of room for growth and learning if you want to master CSS and HTML. Or, there are generic themes that are easy to use, or really talented developers to do it for you.
This podcast site that your media host is linked to creates a central location from which to promote your podcast and easy searchability. This website could be on its own, dedicated site, or it could be integrated into the brand’s site that the podcast is promoting. For example, this podcast was integrated into the Come Alive Academy site but I moved it to its own on PodcastByte.com.
When you have your own website that the media file links to, you also retain control and can create your own RSS feed for the podcast that submits to iTunes, Stitcher, and Google Play.
That’s the long answer.
The short answer?
Does your podcast need a website? Yes, it’s just up to you where it is located: its own, dedicated site or integrated into a brand site.
